About Christina

Born in Thüringen, German mezzo-soprano Christina Bock has studied at both the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig and the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. Christina was a member of the Semperoper Dresden from 2014 to 2020, where she performed an all-lyric repertoire in the roles of Nicklausse/Muse (Les contes d’Hoffmann), Jordan Baker (The Great Gatsby) and Preziosilla (La forza del destino). After making her debut with the Royal Opera House as Page (Salome) and return as Wellgunde (Der Ring der Nibelungen), Christina has appeared at the Staatsoper Wien as Ottavia (L’incoronazione di Poppea) and Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus).

In addition to her operatic repertoire, Christina performs in frequent recitals and chamber music projects, including regular appearances with the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet.

Recent highlights for Christina involve her house and role debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper as Marya Bolkonskaja in their new production of Prokofiev’s War and Peace. She later returned to reprise the role and also featured in their production of Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov and Strauss’ Salome. On the concert stage, Christina featured in a concert version of Tristan und Isolde (Brangäne) with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and performed Grimgerde in Die Walküre with Dresden Philharmonie.

The 2023/2024 season showcases Hänsel und Gretel at the Semperoper Dresden and with Wiener Staatsoper, where she will also perform Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier and Magdalene/Evas Amme in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. In concert she will perform Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra in Norway, and later Mahler’s Symphony No.3 with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
