About Miles

A graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy and The Juilliard School, and a winner of the 2019 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Finnish-American tenor Miles Mykkanen is rapidly garnering recognition on the world’s concert and operatic stages.

Miles' 2023/24 season includes his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as Steuermann (Der Fliegende Holländer) as well as his San Francisco Opera debut in the North American premiere of Kaija Saariaho's Innocence.

Recent appearances include The Metropolitan Opera, New York in Boris Godunov, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Ariadne auf Naxos and Wozzeck; the Canadian Opera Company as Steuermann Der fliegende Holländer and debuts at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in L’incoronazione di Poppea, the Staatsoper Hamburg as Fenton (Falstaff) and Austin Opera as Jaquino (Fidelio). Candide, a signature role for Miles, has brought him to venues including the Opéra de Lausanne, Arizona Opera, Palm Beach Opera and the Ravinia and Tanglewood Festivals.

On the concert platform, Miles has appeared with the New York Philharmonic; the Detroit, New Jersey and Pittsburgh Symphony orchestras and, this season, he gives performances of Carmina Burana with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Krzysztof Urbański, Mozart’s Requiem with the Oregon Symphony Orchestra with Music Director David Danzmayr and Handel’s Messiah with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra led by Norman Mackenzie and with the Kansas City Symphony under the baton of Roberto Kalb.

Miles is also the founder and Artistic Director of the Emberlight Festival.
