[Translated]: Due to illness, he was replaced by an outside guest, Yuriy Yurchuk. It was a good solution, because Yurchuk was a natural part of the performance with a beautiful voice and stature and has also sung in the same staging in Brussels.

[Translated] Yuriy Yurchuk's Onegin is better, replacing the indisposed Jens Søndergaard more than dignifiedly and bringing home the evening with good stage presence and solid voice.

Songs and Dances of Death
[Translated] "“In “Songs and Dances of Death,” Ukrainian baritone Yuriy Yurchuk embodies the Grim Reaper with a vocal intensity that gives you goosebumps" "But then the godfather makes his appearance. The Ukrainian baritone Yuriy Yurchuk lets him march in Mussorgsky's "Songs and Dances of Death." [..] Yurchuk gives him a distinctively contoured voice that reflects the power and darkness of the subject matter.” “[Mussorgsky] turns the first piece into a lullaby, which allows baritone Yurchuk to sway furiously between flattery and horror. He first transforms the scene with the sick girl into an enticing, dancing serenade. He then invites the drunken farmer to dance with the snowflakes (which the orchestra struggles to follow for a moment) before he beds the unfortunate man in the soft white.”

La Traviata
Northern Ireland OperaSep 2022Yurchuk is compelling. His rich baritone carries the requisite gravitas when Giorgio Germont insists that Violetta part from his son to preserve his family’s honor and so as not to offend God. Later, wracked with regret for the tragic course of actions that he has unleashed, his poignant duet with Violetta is tenderly aching.

The Ukrainian baritone Yuriy Yurchuk was affecting as Giorgio Germont, stiff, cold, broken, but his voice warm and reverberant. You may recognise the name. He made news earlier this year when he sang his homeland’s national anthem at the gates of Downing Street.
